Bringing It Back

Making old and new ideas come together so we know what to do when we are in charge.
A fresh new way to see people we work for, with and under.
Neve a dull moment in an ever changing enlivenment.
Always new problems to try and find solutions to.
Go gettem attitudes will make you stand out in the crowd
Even the most experienced managers have something to learn.
Most people would think a fundamentals class was silly and only a requirement but,
Everyone in this class would agree that they learned one thing they will take with them into the world.
Next semester will just not be as fun,
Thanks for teaching us how to lead and make the future a little brighter.

Its all about the blogging

Just want to say at first that blogging is fun, i do it for my self, but this class it was hard for me because i never remembered to get it done and as a result i dont feel like i ever gave the assingments enough time and thought. i know that, that is all on me and i should have gotten it together.

I think that creating a online community for the class is a really good idea. i am no so sure how much it was effective in this situation becasue alot of people might have felt all they need to do is make sure they write thier blog and then say something, anything on the other peoples blog. im not sure how that could have been changed but if there was a way to make it more interactive and constant i think that they would have made it even more of a great experience.
One the things that the blog did accomplish was really helping me look and further understand and digest the in class activites which i wouldnt have done unless i had to think about them after they happened. it also let me see in to other peoples methods and ways og getting things done. and i think that they is a really valuable thing becasue lets say i am ever in one of these kind of situations i not only have the experince that i got from what i did but i can see what other people did and learn form thier actions. it gives me a whole different level of knowdgle that i would not otherwise would have.
I think that its a super creative way to get extra control over your own grade. and i was clear about how much it was worth but it was still hard when you have like 8 million things going on and you always have to be like.. "Crap i need to blog" and then you forget and an hour later you think the samething again. Will i continue to blog on this blog... probobly not, unless i tyhink that there is something really relevent that i need to put it on. Do i think people will read this blog after the semester is over... not really unless it is like freinds and this is how they are going to keep in touch. i will continue to blog in the online world and maybe some management topics will get in there some how.

influential FTW

This one one of the most interesting test I ever took. It was hard trying to figure out what words described me. I had never thought about myself in terms of some of the words. It turns out I am an I sub C profile type, or influence, according to the test and in reality I couldn't agree more.

I like to get things done, I usually am able to process information fast and see what needs to be done so that the best outcome is achieved. However I don't like dismissing other or not including them in the process of making choices, I rather listen to them and the get them to do what I want with logic. Honestly when we went over the descriptions I thought it was so funny because it was so true.

I am very happy with my test results. I don't think that I would change it because it is the right combination of power and thoughtfulness which is something i am always trying to put together. I think that to change the profile results would be silly because it is something innate. I believe that a person could train them selves to adopt the traits of the other types that would make them a more effective leader but it would be hard to change instinct.

I could see how something like this could be useful in a business setting to know the kind of people you work with. if you know what kind of problems and personality road block you might face while trying to solve problems then you can do things to head them off and get past them faster. I can see how it would be a good way to be more efficient. however i don't know what kind of personal interaction it would help out with. I mean I could see dating and I'm sure that some dating sites are based on similar things, but you really never know. some people say opposites attract, and people are people. you can get a general sense from a test like this but to really get to know a person is a different story.

I think this is a cool test. I am glad that it is on blackboard so I can have my friends do it.. no joke :D

My Life.. in a few years

I hate when people ask me what my vision for the future is. Where do I see my self in five years?!?!? I hardly know where I'm going to be in 3 hours so please. Ever since my vision of college  got fogged up I have not been able to set goals so this is a interesting assignment for me.

I would say that my first goal is to get some kind of job or internship in a publishing company. I know that books are going out of style but I love them and I am an English minor (being an English major was just to impractical). What I would need to do to get this would be to utilize the the career center at school and to speak to people I know in the publishing industry.

The second goal that I have is to travel and go to all the places that I have on my list. The most important thing I would need to start to do to make this happen is save money, that is really the key. But I should also find out more about the places that I want to visit. Find out good places to visit, eat and skip so that I don't wast my time and money in tourist traps. Lastly I think it would be helpful to talk to people who have visited and get their ideas and knowledge.

My last goal is super random. I want to open a bakery. As to the steps to need to achieve these goals I have no idea what to do. I guess that I would need to learn about going in to business for my self and starting a business. Also I should get some real bakery experience seeing as all I have is a love a baking.

so this was useful to me. It was something that I was afraid to do because I was afraid that I would just be upset when or if they didn't come to life. But it is good that they are out in the open so people can support me.

Let's Make a Deal!

When trying to come to a decision about how we wanted to handle our test grades i took an accommodating approach. i think that after we got the curve i felt super lucky and would have been fine if it was just that. so when people wanted more it was not so important to me but i could understand why it would be. also when people were trying to take parts of the test away i was against it only because i know that people have different ways of learning and testing. to take parts away was just not going to be fair to some peoples strengths and weaknesses.
In the class i feel like there was a lot of people who were in "compete to win" and "Avoidance" modes. many of the people who ended up in the from of the class and took charge were compete to win. they wanted all that they could get that would help them. i saw a few other people who were trying to get something fair for everyone.
I'm not sure that one method would have been any better for ME personally to take. i think that if there had been a more powerful leader and more people thinking of others. more people in an accommodation mind set. i personally think that when you start thinking of  how to be fair to other people and what they need is when you get the most. i think that in our situation that would have been the best thing to do. i think that a collaborative approach would have taken too much time and would have made things to tense.

Not all its Cracked Up to Be

Let me just say first that my group failed miserably at this task. When our egg hit the floor there was Egg lacking out from all over. This however comes as no surprise to me because even before we went over the effective planing step it was obvious my group did not have it going on.

looking at the steps i can safely say that we did the first one, and this is only because it was pretty much laid out for us. What was wanted and expected of us was on the board from the start so there was not a lot of effort on our part that went in to the first step. i would also say that we did half of the third step. as each new idea came up (and there were quite a few) we looked at how that would impact the egg and what would need to be done to put it together ie: would we have to cut a lot of the straws, would we need to maneuver the straws into unnatural shapes. lastly we did half of the fourth step, which was we picked an idea (it was not the best one that we had) and we kind of gave rolls out as we went (there was no rolls given out before the materials were given out.) i guess everyone did the last step because we all put something together. however once we started putting our failing contraption together we did not stop to revise it and make it better we just went for it. not the smartest idea ever.

I would say that we bypassed the most important aspects of the steps we did take and the second step all together. at no point did talking about what we might know come up. i might have mentioned that i wish i payed better attention in physics now but that was as far as it went. i think this happened because we were so flustered by this seemingly impossible task in such a short amount of time.

so did we the outcome represent the amount of effective planing that went into this, yes! the contraption we made failed just as our planing did. i think that the part we missed was that of assessing skills and deciding on a plan to go with. we were still arguing about what we were going to do when we finally got the egg. at that point we just did what ever we felt like, there was no good planning in that chaotic phase either.
overall we were just not well organized.

Its a Different World

When I was in high school I was part of exchange program with a school in Denmark. Since then I have gone back and my friend have come to visit me and the one thing we are always talking about is FOOD.

I love food so eating in other countries is such a treat and in Denmark it is different in many ways. The first thing that is always noticed is the portion size. In Denmark as it is with most of Europe most of their portions are smaller (and healthier), always served with salad or some kind of veggie. This is something rather rare in the United States unless you are at a really fancy restaurant. I love it when I go there it is just a nicer thing to not have so much food on a plate, and I love salad so the more the better.

When the danish come here tho they are horrified! (I'm sure making them watch Man V. Food didn't help) they cant believe some of the portion sizes and that people actually eat them. I remember that once we went to a restaurant and one guy ordered a salad and was astonished at its size!

Another difference in food is the way that meal time as seen. In Denmark much like other place eating out with friends is an event that's not only about the eating part. They will sit for long periods of time to just talk and eat slow. This is different I notice that a lot of people in America eat rather fast hardly giving time to taste the food. its to bad.

However I have noticed that tomatoes are no good in any country. :-P
